CIP Committee Work Plan 2006-07

Committee members: all cluster coordinators, Executive Board

Goal: Every child should attend school in a safe, secure, and modern facility. Success of academic programs is interdependent on adequate and appropriate learning environments.spaces. The CIP must be fully funded to ensure each MCPS facility meets educational specifications and program needs.

Activities: Provide information, assess countywide needs, and provide testimony on capital budget issues on behalf of President and MCCPTA, to MCPS staff, BOE, County Council and other elected officials as needed. Initiate committee objectives and promote to MCCPTA Executive Board and Delegates.

Description of Work and Estimated Completion Dates: Work closely with MCPS Department of Long-Range Facility Planning staff to communicate issues and information to and from Cluster Coordinators, delegates, PTA presidents and Executive Board by:

• planning forums on the Master Plan and CIP for cluster coordinators, PTA presidents, PTA facilities chairs
• analyzing cluster comments; working with cluster coordinators to develop countywide themes for testimony
• meeting with the Superintendent, Board members, County Council, and other elected officials
• representing MCCPTA at the facilities Department staff retreat
• providing MCCPTA testimony to the BOE and County Council
• setting up an informal meeting to talk about CIP issues with BOE
• monitoring Operating Budget’s relationship to Capital Budget both locally and at the State level
• coordinating with Legislative Committee on efforts to increase state CIP funding through communication, interaction, and lobbying
• reporting to membership/executive board on status of funding and new projects; boundary studies or special task force groups, contact with facilities staff on problems or needs
