MEETING OF THE MCCPTA GRADING AND REPORTING COMMITTEE

Monday, October 17, 2005

7:30- 9:30 p.m.

Room 120

Carver Educational Services Center,

850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville

Please join MCCPTA's Grading and Reporting Committee as we monitor implementation of the grading and reporting policy in the 2005-06 school year!

This committee will monitor implementation of MCPS' Grading and Reporting Policy at the seventeen (17) elementary schools piloting the new grade 1 and 2 report card as well as revisions to reteach/reassessment, homework and grading procedures at the secondary level.

At this meeting we will:

  • Continue to collect feedback from parents regarding communication about grading and reporting implementation at their local schools.  We will discuss the effectiveness of local school procedures for resolving grading and reporting questions. We will review the parent “flow chart” for any necessary improvements.
  • Get a report from parent representatives at the pilot elementary schools as to their experiences to date.
  • Address recurring questions at the secondary level about “due date/deadline”, the meaning of “minimum standards” and extra credit.  NOTE:  Parents are encouraged to bring copies of any specific course procedures that trigger recurring grading and reporting questions.
  • Review any available updates, including FAQs, from MCPS so that we can share clarifications or modifications with the local school communities.

The meeting is open to all parents.

Questions may be directed to  Shirley Brandman, Chair at sdbhms@verizon.net
