| Cultural Arts

Oversees an introductory workshop for cultural arts chairs from local schools, and supports high-quality performances to enrich the educational program of children in MCPS. Shares successful programs among local schools and cooperates with the chair of the Superintendent’s Committee for Performances in the Schools. |

Seeks to acquaint MCCPTA and local PTAs with new and changing curriculum developments at the national, state and county levels. Attends the MCPS Curriculum Advisory Committee meetings. Advocates for curriculum issues. |

Coordinates the efforts of the PTAs in the Down County Consortium with special attention to the needs of the high school consortium programs and the vertical articulation process from middle school to high school. |

Advocates for healthy school environments and the provision of resources to the local schools for health and substance abuse issues. Representation from this committee serves on the Montgomery County School Health Council. |

Focuses on issues relating to curriculum, graduation and exploration of models of learning at the high school level. Plans and presents a high school conference. |

Work on continuous improvement of Student Service Learning Hours (SSL) to make them meaningful and of increased quality. Help with communication of PTA’s on requirements of SSL and opportunities for students to earn hours. |

Assists MCCPTA with advocacy in state and county education issues and legislation, and represents MCCPTA on county, state and federal legislative committees. Serves as liaison with Maryland PTA and the National PTA. Informs MCCPTA delegates on legislative issues and changes. |
